Casual Friday for Ladies 2015-2016

No matter if we like it or not, work occupies a lot of our time. Most of us spend almost more time at work than at home and this can be seen very easy if we take a short look in our closets. A lot of money are spent on clothes for work, for going out and a lot less for the ones which we use for staying at home. We often use at home some old clothes that we can’t wear outside anymore in order to save some money. Well, considering how important work clothes are for us, I thought it will be a good idea to talk a little about this issue, in particular about so called casual Fridays.

Many companies have a dressing code, but some of them are less strict when coming to Fridays. Unfortunately , if you work in business, banking, somewhere in front office you do not have casual Fridays.

First, we have to distinguish five types of dressing at work: there is casual, smart casual, business casual, formal business and uniforms. The most common used attire at work is business casual, followed by smart casual, casual, uniforms and formal business attire. this is why I’ve decided to stop over the business casual. You must know that there is a small line between the first three and you should be very careful to don’t confuse them.

We all know how uniforms and formal business look like so let’s talk about the other three attires.

Casual clothes emphasizes comfort and personal expression and includes jeans and T-shirts, athletic gear and skin exposure clothes.

Smart casual is a dress code not formally defined, somewhere between casual and business casual and includes trousers, skirts, hosiery or socks with boots, flats, belts, blouses, sweaters, jackets and vests.

Business casual is not a uniform and it means dressing professionally but looking relaxed. The interpretation of business casual often differs among organizations so you have to check first how your company sees business casual. Generally they consider it to be between business formal wear and casual wear.

smart casual outfit for ladies

For women are acceptable: informal dresses with appropriate skirt length, trousers combined with tops like dress skirts or sweater sets.

The length of the skirts and dresses is acceptable as long as the hem falls past the knees and be careful not to wear low-cut dresses or with high slits. Of course sundresses are not allowed.

As for pants, try dress pants, corduroy pants, khakis pants or linen pants. When it comes to skirts, here you can play a little because there are a few more options to choose from. It doesn’t matter if the skirts are tucked in or un tucked and you could use ones with a collar for a more formal look.

The colors of your outfit is best to be more formal, like blue, black, white or grey, but you could add some color on your shirts for example like pale pink or other soft pastel colors, nothing too bright and shiny although. Also, the patterns must be carefully choose not to overcrowd your outfit, you’d better keep it simple.

About fabrics… what can I say? Avoid knitted clothiers, transparent ones or made from leather.

Coming to footwear try flat trousers shoes, open toed shoes, leather ones and high heels but avoid if you can sneakers when you dress office, flip flops or sandals.

Of course you will use some simple jewelry, like some stud earrings for example. Actually you could play with your accessories to make your outfit more or less formal. If you think your outfit it’s too formal, use some colored jewelry or less simple purse , put on a scarf with flowers pattern and you’re all set.

Things to avoid when dressing business casual:

– lots of jewelry
– spiky sandals- metallic colors
– excessive use of wild patterns
– to many bright colors
– undergarment straps showing
– shorts panty lines
– visible panty lines
– too sexy clothes (sometimes is not good , especially in a office environment)
– all athletic clothes
– spaghetti strap tops and t-shirts
– tank tops and plain crew neck

Well, now put on some light make-up and enjoy your Friday because it’s almost week-end!!
